Byzantine Army took several forms during its long history - from Roman legions to feudal armies in the late Middle Ages. On this picture You can see a typical arming of Byzantine infantry soldier, including sword, the shield, lancets (short lance, long lance), the helmet, bow and arrows, the cudgel for near battle contact, the sling that was used for hitting rocks and metals, and personal clothes including the mantle and an armour.
